The Sauerday Evening Post #1

OK, this is a little nuts but I got it all in the cloud, so why not? Let's just post 10 GB of stuff.
Today is the 10-year anniversary of perhaps the greatest single broadcast in TV history. I get that that's a bit hyperbolic, but hear me out.
Actually there were two, a week apart.... August 6th and 13th, 2006. Almost 11 hours were shown in total, and I will never forget the full shows being posted on the old Sharing The Groove site (now The Trader's Den) in DVD format, straight off the box. That was like Christmas morning multiplied by The Rapture, for me anyways.
This sort of thing would never, under any circumstances not involving spacefaring, Frumpy-obsessed ETs landing on the White House lawn threatening to eat us unless we put it on, be shown on American TV. There just isn't 11 hours available, what with all the political Kabuki-for-profit Stockholm Syndrome "election" coverage on there 25 hours a day. To see a little Joy Unlimited, you'd have to sit through a whole lotta sadness.
I'm not gonna editorialize much around this post, except to say that if you dig Krautrock or Deutschrock or whatever you wanna call it, you're gonna wanna get to clicking on those links below, trust me. The opportunity to access this much broadcast-quality footage straight out of the German TV archives doesn't come too often... once every decade, maybe.
Of course, leave it to me to look at 3 DVDs of material and say, "That's not adequate." So I sat here all day yesterday and worked on extracting the audio from the whole set and excising the cuts I felt really mashed it up, and meticulously remastered a CD's worth of that for your added enjoyment. The film clips here comprise the first volume of Die Deutschrock Nacht, as aired ten years ago on the WDR... the second will follow here next Saturday, with an additional bonus disc created by me! What can I say? My pathetic obsession is your benefit, can you feel it?

Like I said, I constructed this week's bonus CD from the whole 11 hours of footage (and boy, are my arms tired) -- I focused on the songs with vocals for this one. There'll be another equivalent post with the second night of this event a week from today, with a bonus disc made up of the best of the instrumental jams from this. I'll return tomorrow with more birthday gifts and party hats, but for now I'd advise pasting your mind to these videos... it's like taking a trip to Heaven, or at least Heidelberg.--J.
